    • Alan, left school early due to his father working away in Beverley near Hull in construction., he started driving a Bread Delivery van and then moved onto the Buses in Manchester. from there he started driving Taxicabs and opened his own business . He used to do wedding cars on the side on weekends. He was a member of the Greater Manchester Taxi Association (Life Time). and continued working until a few years after his wifes death in 1975.

      During the war years he was in the R.A.F. driving the tenders out to the returning aircraft as they came in for landing, he tried to be a pilot but failed due to his bad eyesight in one eye. He was abroad in Belguim and Denmark and did keep in touch with some of the friends he made over there until the late 1990s
      His R.A.F. serial number was 1685547. he spent time in Blackpool,Conningsbury,Mildenhall Stradishall Newmarket and Blake HIll Farms. He was attached to the 97th Squadron for a time. he ferried equipment over to France before being deployed to Brussels and then later Copenhagen. He demobbed in Warton in November of 1946
